Lakehead University Canadian Society for Chemical Engineers

Connecting tomorrow’s Chemical Engineers

What we do

Welcome to the Lakehead Chemical Engineering Society. We are part of the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering (CSChE), a national professional association that unites chemical engineering students and professionals working in industry, academia, or government.

Our mission is to advance the chemical engineering profession and the careers of its practitioners by facilitating the exchange of knowledge, enabling lifelong learning, promoting STEM education, and advocating thical and responsible practices.

What We’ve Achieved

  • Multiple club field trip tours at places such as Thunder Bay Pulp and Paper Mill, the water treatment plant, and Sleeping Giant brewery.

  • High school outreach where fun chemical engineering activities were done with grade 10 classes at St. Patrick’s High School.

  • Every year our club puts on Spaghetti Dinner, where students and professors can bond while eating spaghetti.

“Chemical engineering is about using nature’s foundational principles to improve the quality of human life.”

— Robert F. Curl Jr.

Events

Here you’ll findout on events we’ve done and are planning to have come in the future.

High School Outreach:

The Lakehead CSChE branch is committed to the national organization’s goal of promoting our field.

No matter our future careers, we all can benifit from learning a little more about the physical and chemical phenomena that govern our lives. Inspiring future engineers is a definite plus, and so high schools are the perfect places to being the building blocks for slime, sand filters, and soap.

Students connect chemical engineers to the world around them, and we all have a blast doing it.

Send us an email to take part in our next outreach event and rediscover why you pursued chemical engineering in the first place. It’s a win-win.

Last Years Events:

Last year, our club had an exciting lineup of events that brought us closer together as a group.

We started with a visit to the pulp and paper mill, gaining valuable insights into industrial operations.

Later, we toured the local brewery, where we got an inside look at the brewing process.

We also enjoyed some fun on the ice with a group ice skating on lake Tamblyn, and we wrapped up the year with a memorable pasta dinner with our professors, which provided a great opportunity to connect and share experiences outside the classroom.

  • Industry site tours, including the pulp and paper mill and (hopefully) a nearby mine

  • Social events like skating, bowling, and movie nights

  • An industry/alumni mixer
